Mysterious place, such is our Prieuré...Mysterious date of construction, mysterious owners, mysterious history...
If this story intrigues you then ask to Didier and Marie-Jo to tell you the story of the Prieuré de la Fayolle.
Today monastic cells have given way to beautiful spacious and full of charm rooms...
Fallen in love with this “charentaise” some years ago, Didier and Marie-Jo now want to share with you their pleasure of living close to Saint Jean d’Angély.
3 guest rooms in this house of St Denis du Pin can accommodate up to 10 people. Classified 4 stars by Gîtes de France and “guest rooms de charme”, you will spend more than pleasant times.
Each room is unique and charm makes the unity of the home.
In the entrance you will find a library for children and adults, the documentation to organize your visits (castles, roman churchs, the cities of Cognac, Saintes, Rochefort, or La Rochelle, walks on the Atlantic coast or in the Marais Poitevin,...) and an information board, updated daily, with markets, festivals and weather !!
The reception area, heart of the house, a quiet and friendly place where we share the “Charentaises” delicacies, your feelings about the heritage of the Saintonge Dorée or about your walks on the Atlantic coast, the place where we talk about visits made or still to be done...Brouage, Cognac, La Rochelle, Rochefort, Saintes, the islands of Ré, Oléron and Aix and many other wonderful places !!!
A get together place where you will discover the life of the Prieuré, the life of your hosts and their passion for the Charente-Maritime and their happiness to share with you the treasures of this department.
This is a special moment that Marie Jo and Didier share every night (except on Tuesday) with their guests around a large table carefully decorated.
Setting, candles, flowers...everything is there to make you spend a pleasant moment.
On your plate you will discover the specialties of our producers : the famous “Boudin gris” from the farm Boutin, the farci au foie gras from the Maison de Charente, goat cheese made by Paul Georgelet, regional products cooked with finesse and originality and sometimes Marie Jo creations : « panna cotta vanille, gelée de caramel au Cognac et coulis de framboises », « confit de Dudule à l’orange et au Cognac », « dos de Cabillaud sauce chorizo et ses mojettes », « cuisse de dinde au caramel de confit de vin charentais »...
Not to mention the wines of the Charente produced by Bonnin you will taste them in white, red or rosé as you wish.
Every Saturday, Marie Jo an Didier offer gourmet dinner…some dishes in addition to the traditional weekly dinner, a Pineau tasting with cheese and a surprise with your coffee or tea !
For breakfast, bread and croissants are home-baked by Didier every morning.
The home-made jams are successful, especially strawberry-apricot-anise, pear-vanilla, raspberry-blackberry, citrus fruit-figue-romarin…and for some hosts the...butter is an eye-opener : the Cognac butter for example and for those found of salt : chorizo butter to be spread on bread and eaten with cheese !
Fresh seasonal fruits, quartered , stewed, coulis on white cheese are also appreciated unanimously.
A shaded park where swaying hollyhocks; a piece of blue sky as it exists only in Charente Maritime and occasionally a small Atlantic breeze came to cool summer nights, a few rows of vines to remember that we are the country of Pineau and Cognac ... In short, a relaxing interlude of greenery to dream .
